Gateway Classic Cars Houston Showroom is proud to present 1970 Dodge Challenger Convertible. Few cars represent the muscle car era quite like a first generation Challenger, and a convertible version brings an added sense of occasion to an already iconic design. This example has been through a rotisserie restoration dating to around 2013, with the rust corrected or replaced before being finished in a 2010 Challenger Deep Water Blue Pearl. A new black interior and black power convertible top complete the look, giving this Challenger a color combination that is both unmistakably muscle car and distinctly its own. The heart of this Challenger is a 440 cubic-inch Dodge V8, built with D440 30-over forged flat-top pistons and 915/67 closed-chamber heads with hardened seats. The engine is fitted with a Mopar M1 dual-plane intake, Edelbrock Performer 759 CFM carburetor, and a Comp Cam hydraulic flat-tappet camshaft. Schumacher Poly-Lock motor mounts and Schumacher Tri-Y headers finished in satin black ceramic help tie the engine compartment together, while a TTI 2.5-inch exhaust with crossover and Dynomax Super Turbo mufflers gives the big-block a proper muscle car soundtrack. Power is sent through a 727 Torqueflite automatic transmission equipped with a part-throttle kickdown. Out back is an 8 3/4-inch posi rear end with 3.55 gears, giving the Challenger a classic combination of big-block power and rear-wheel-drive muscle. Stopping duties are handled by four-wheel disc brakes with Hydratec Hydroboost, while Bilstein RCD shocks, FirmFeel 1.06 torsion bars, and FirmFeel tubular upper control arms bring additional attention to the chassis. Cragar 17x7 and 17x8 wheels are wrapped in Nitto A555 R2 tires measuring 225/50 and 255/50. Step back for a moment and take in the proportions. Long hood, short deck, aggressive stance and the open-air appeal of a convertible all come together in a car that feels like it belongs on a summer evening cruise or parked outside a classic drive-in. The Deep Water Blue Pearl finish gives the Challenger a more modern interpretation of its classic muscle car shape, while the black interior and power convertible top keep the overall presentation purposeful. There are also some thoughtful updates that make this Challenger more enjoyable to drive. All of the light bulbs have been converted to LED, and the car has accumulated approximately 4,000 miles since its restoration. Along with the car comes extensive documentation, as well as miscellaneous brochures and spare or original parts, giving the next owner additional history and material connected to the car.
